Kandyan Dance-Real History of Origin

I read in a website Lankalibrary.com that Kandyan Dance originated 2500 years ago.It is not true.
Kandyan dance in it's purest form came into being during the time of King Gajabahu who brought it from present day kerala- then known as Chera Kingdom.

Before 10th century Kerala was part of Tamilnadu and Malayala language did not evolve.

The culture prevailed was that of tamilnadu and cult of Paththini -that is Kannagi was dominant.
King Gajabahu was fascinated and the rest is well known.

Two cardinal points - lifting legs up and the ornament Halamba -in tamil -Silambu -shows the origin.

Even today sinhalese girls do not prefer to learn kandyan dancing because of the raising of legs and go for Barathanatyam etc.In my own family this happened.

Ornament Halamaba is of interest historically.Whereas in Tamilnadu this ornament vanished centuries ago, Kandyan Kingdom and Sinhalese have preserved this ornament up to now.

Tamils can see the original design of Silambu in it's purest form as worn by Kannagi of Silappathikaram,in Sri Lanka worn by Kandyan Dancers.

It is a historical irony that bikkus chose to ignore due to their inability to face the real history.

Historical Mansions and Families of ceylon

I recently came across a news item that Nugawela Walauwe has been modernised in to a Tourist Hotel . Major.Nugawela a Minister in the First Govt of Ceylon under D.S .Senanayake sold this Mansion as ,he was Poor.Those days Ministers did not know that Cabinet posts can be lucarative. He sold it to a newly rich man .And after that,it changed many hands and now renovated by a family which had turned into a Tourist Hotel with panoramic view.

Then, Balangoda Walauwe where Mrs.Sirimavo grew up has come into the Market.Maybe it too will turn up into a Tourist Hotel.

There are many Mansions with 100 rooms ec which can easily make money for the county ,only if the govt can make up it's mind. All over in the erstwhile Kandyan Kingdom,here are many mansions in the custodt of the govt lying neglected and unused.

It is a pit that these mansions with traditions are allowed to die wilfully

It took fairly long time to convince myself of the need to create this blog.My reluctance is due to the absence of tolerance among Ceylonese now.I do not wish to mention the word Sri Lanka as it signifies all the misery that came to my beloved land.I am now convinced that we can remain united in Ceylon and not under Sri Lanka.

Constitutional change of Ceylon into Sri Lanka was brought by Mrs.Srimavo Bandaranayake without the consent of Tamils. She paved the way for violent war. I remember the consequents of her rule ,in it's all the ugly forms.Present President is continuing her work to it's logical direcon.But, he will realise the lessons of history soon. You just cannot divide Ceylon fron South India.

I have practically waded the palk straits in my life time. Now, I am surprised to see the foolish decisios of Delhi Govt guided by Mrs.Sonia. She should have read the histories of Chola,Pandian,cheras etc Till next timebye bye

This is a voice from the past.I was born in Ceylon during British period and grew thru ndependence etc.

I saw how a beautiful educated and healthy country descended in to the hell of civil war etc-ll for want of tolerance and farsightedness.

Now I wish to share with everyone knowledge,news and so forth with the same feelings that prevailed in CEYLON
